Workforce Development

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Raise the profile of career opportunities and professional
development in the asphalt pavement industry.

Rarely discussed in schools as an alternative to college, trade jobs offer great career potential, providing good pay, stability, and a welcoming culture. Asphalt pavement companies are looking for entry-level, mid-career, and seasoned professionals to join the industry. With on-the-job training, there are numerous opportunities available throughout the United States.

To support these recruiting efforts, NAPA launched a Career Pathways website in January. The site provides information to potential recruits on 26 industry jobs by skill level plus details such as job descriptions, requirements, experience, average nationwide salary, and career advancement.

NAPA members can use these materials to support their own recruiting efforts, while future employees and school/career counselors gain greater awareness about job opportunities, requirements, and advancement potential in a stable, essential industry.

ENGAGING WOMEN IN THE ASPHALT INDUSTRY
Women of Asphalt celebrated its 5th anniversary with some major milestones, including hiring its first full-time staff, Arpine Baghdasarian, and welcoming a new Board President, Sheila Barkevich.

WofA branches held more than 75 events in 2022. See what some of them have been up to, along with more women in asphalt stories, in Asphalt Pavement magazine’s July/August issue.

WHAT’S NEXT
FOR SOCIAL MEDIA?
NAPA started providing social media guidance in 2015, when the industry
was just dipping its toes into social media channels to connect with
employees, customers, the community, and potential workers. The
industry’s understanding of social media has evolved since then, along
with staffing. Today, many members have hired marketing experts who
are developing their own unique, robust content. Therefore, NAPA sunset
its monthly social media calendar for members at the end of 2022. We
continue to engage on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter, and
YouTube. Give us a follow!
